From September 7 to 14, 2025, Pavia will host 15 university students from both Italy and Europe to experience sharing and working on the city’s Via Francigena.
This initiative is part of the IT.A.CÀ Festival of Responsible Tourism, the first and only festival in Italy focused on responsible tourism and tourism innovation, now in its 17th edition. The idea stems from the synergy between the University of Pavia and the Municipality of Pavia, territorial coordinators of the IT.A.CÀ Pavia and Oltrepò Pavese stop.

During the camp, participants will focus on enhancing the stretch of the Via Francigena that runs through the municipal territory. Under the guidance of Ticino Park and the faculty of the University of Pavia, they will clean the trail and set up signage, followed by a preliminary mapping of points of interest along the route and the digitalization phase in collaboration with the Civil Engineering and Architecture Department and the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department – DICAR of the University of Pavia.

At the same time, the group will meet with various Third Sector Organizations (ETS) engaged in activities for the care and enhancement of the territory, with whom the final event on Saturday, September 13, will be organized, open to the entire community.
The young participants will thus develop environmental and digital skills while experiencing life and work within the Ticino Park and along the river, staying at the Lido di Pavia.
The camp will be free for participants, except for travel expenses, which will be the responsibility of individuals. Participation will occur through a selection of applications received by July 20 at 12:00, by completing the form.

This first edition of the INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER CAMP lays the groundwork for a broader project related to the enhancement of European paths and their digitalization, which could involve more university students and volunteers at the European level in the coming years, making the tourist and cultural offerings of Pavia increasingly accessible and attractive, especially to younger generations.

IT.A.CÀ Festival of Responsible Tourism is the first and only festival in Italy dedicated to responsible tourism and tourism innovation. Awarded by the UN World Tourism Organization, it invites discovery of places and cultures through walking and cycling paths, books, concerts, performances, meetings, workshops, and seminars to launch a more ethical and environmentally respectful idea of tourism. A unique journey through diverse territories combining tourism sustainability with citizen well-being.

Theme 2025: GUARDING THE FUTURE – From today’s choices, the face of tomorrow represents an invitation to reflect on the relationship between present and future, care and transformation, preservation of the existing and openness to future possibilities. Custodire il futuro means making responsible choices today to ensure a livable tomorrow, aware that every decision, big or small, is a seed that will grow over time.
